Does anyone know of any LEGITIMATE work-from-home online jobs? I already have a part time position as a "geographical researcher" for Nokia -- pretty much a QA thing, we get queries to their map search and the answer the search engine provided, and we use our squishy human brains to evaluate whether the response makes any damn sense, or if the map search has gone off its meds again.

It's useless Googling for these things. All I can find are shady clearinghouse sites with exceedingly questionable web design offering me "online positions!" with "thousands of companies!" "right now!" in exchange for all the information they'd need to commit identity fraud. No, thank you.

As usual, I am perfectly capable of doing medical or legal transcription, but I lack the ability to pay for the official piece of paper that says so.

  1. Well, for a while, my mom worked for TripAdvisor. She went through the user-submitted reviews for content. She liked the fact that she could spread her hours over the week pretty much however she wanted, but had technical difficulties and problems with the management. Also, I checked their site last week and they don't seem to be hiring for that department right now. : /

    1. Yeah, I've been checking things like the ChaCha Guides program, and no one seems to need people right now. I'll just keep checking back, I guess.

  2. Dunno if this is the kind of thing you're looking for, but The Wirecutter is looking for researchers and reporters, although mostly for their home goods side at the moment I think-- http://thewirecutter.com/jobs/

    1. Much of what they want requires experience I don't have. Some of what they want requires experience that I may be able to get by without by saying, "No, see, I already write, look at my blog." The fact-checking position, I've basically been practicing for my entire life. :) I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
